1. What is Arctic Trail Run?
Arctic Trail Run is a trail running event in Saariselkä, Lapland, Finland. ATR takes place every year on Saturday on week 38. There are three distances: 10km, 20km, and 50km.
2. How can I get to Saariselkä?
Saariselkä is located in Finnish Lapland, 260km north from the Arctic Circle. You can travel to Saariselkä by car via E75, by bus, by airplane, or by combined train + bus journey.
The closest airport is located in Ivalo and the closest railway station in Rovaniemi. There are connecting bus connection from both the airport and the railway station.
3. How is the weather like?
Typically at the end of September, the nights are already crisp but the day temperatures can reach up to +15C. Usually we have already had the first snow before ATR, but the snow is not likely to stay before Mid-October.
4. How are the trails?
Majority of the Arctic Trail Run trails are natural single trails in open fell landscape. The terrain is naturally stony and rooty, but it is not awfully technical. On the 50km loop there are some wider and smoother man-made trails.
5. Prizes
3 best men and women in each category will be awarded. In the shortest distance there are also own classes for juniors where 3 best girls and boys will be awarded. In the 50km classes we have money prizes.
6. Compulsory equipment
There is no compulsory equipment in the event. However we recommend having basic first aid equipment, suitable clothing, and enough of energy with you.
7. Service along the trails
There are two service points along the 20km and 50km trails; 1. at 14km and 2. at 44km. We serve Purepower sports dring, water, bananas, and potato ships. We also take participant's own equipment to the service point. The equipment needs to be in the race office latest one hour before the 1st start.
